Who’s WheelchairSteve?

Steve "WheelchairSteve" Wilkinson

When this photograph was taken, no one knew I would spend my life Dealing with Disability.

Doctors diagnosed I had Spina Bifida. Consequently, I spent much of the first 8 years of my life in hospital having surgery and treatment.

I now use a wheelchair to get about, hence my nickname  –  “WheelchairSteve“.

I enjoy life to the full and have been successful in special and mainstream schools, at university and in an IT career spanning over 30 years.  I always have a positive “CAN DO”
attitude. My motto for life is

You Can Do What You Want To Do

I see life like a game of cards.  Whichever cards you’re dealt throughout your life, you have to play those cards to win the game.

Book me to hear my keynote speech “Playing The Cards You’re Dealt” and let me inspire you and your audience to look at life in a positive way.

“His presentation was very effective, informative, interactive and fun, whilst at the same time delivering a very important message.  Every one of the delegates present stated that Steve’s presentation is one of the best they have seen”.

Jo Tate, Area Diversity Lead, North East Area HM Prison Service
